It is my pleasure to introduce the Doomadgee Youth Council, an important initiative that reflects our commitment to empowering young people and ensuring their voices are heard in decisions that affect their lives and our community.

Young people are our future leaders, decision-makers, cultural custodians, and role models of Doomadgee. By establishing the Youth Council, we are creating a meaningful pathway for young people to actively participate in local leadership, share their perspectives, and contribute to the future direction of our community.

The Youth Council provides an opportunity for young people to develop confidence, leadership skills, and a greater understanding of governance while working alongside Council, community members, and key stakeholders. It also strengthens our commitment to fostering inclusion, community participation, and cultural pride.

Doomadgee Aboriginal Shire Council recognises the importance of investing in our young people and creating opportunities for them to influence positive change. The Youth Council will serve as an important platform through which young people can raise issues, share ideas, advocate for their peers, and contribute to initiatives that support the wellbeing and growth of our community.

I encourage all young people to embrace this opportunity and participate with confidence, respect, and pride. I also acknowledge the families, Elders, community organisations, and partners who will support and guide our young leaders on this journey.

Together, we are building a stronger future for Doomadgee, led by the voices, ideas, and aspirations of our young people.
